Bill Bulinksi first came
to prominence with The Electras. This garage-punk band was formed
in Ely, Minnesota back in 1961 or 1962, starting out as an all-instrumental
band. Over time, they added a voalist, and became one of the Midwest's
hottest bands. All of their recordings are now hot property -
their best known, Dirty OI'
Man was written and produced by
Warren Kendricks, The Litter's producer. Dirty
OI' Man is a superb example of mid-sixties
punk with excellent snotty vocals and chainsaw guitar. The Electras
also did a studio demo of The Litter's Action
Woman which can be found on the
CDs Get Primitive (The Best
Of Pebbles) and Open
Up Your Door.
The Electras
were signed to Scotty Records in 1965, and went on to release
seven singles as follows:
'Bout My
Love/Memories (Scotty 6194) 1965
Dirty OI'Man/Courage
To Cry (Scott 6351) 1966
Soul Searchin'/This
Week's Children (Scotty 6613) 1966
Dirty Ol'
Man/Your Love (Scotty 6621) 1966
I'm Not
Talkin'/Pregnant Pig (Scotty 6720) 1967
Action
Woman/Pregnant Pig (Scotty 6720) 1967
* Dirty
Ol' Man/This Week's Children (Date 1550) 1967
* Released
as Twas Brillig.
Bill was
drafted in 1966, and returned in 1968 just as their name was changed
by Warren Kendricks to Twas Brillig. Shortly after this lead vocalist
Tim Elving was drafted and they called it a day.
Bill drifted,
doing a wide variety of gigs, primarily in the Chicago area. Finally,
he decided to put together a surf band in the mid-eighties. The
Greaseballs. While the band now gets together only for reunion
gigs, their critically-acclaimed CD, Wake Up and Smell the
Greaseballs continues to find an audience among those who
love surf music. |
